Resul Pookuty keeps the West waiting

An Oscar has not been able to bring about much change in the simple persona of sound engineer Resul Pookuty.

It is nothing less than a surprise when it comes to light that the big money and more fame that a film technician gets in Hollywood has not been able to lure Resul.

The extremely down to earth person says “I want to live and work here in my country and pass on whatever I have learnt so far to the next generation. May be 10 years down the line, if I get an opportunity to head West, I might think about it, but not now”.

He also added “Something that is always to be remembered is that it was my work in India that got me an Oscar and not my work in the West. I have no qualms about people from the West chasing me now but when you go there, the whole dynamics of work change for you and I do not want to be in such a situation”.

Speaking about the biggest impact brought about by his and A.R.Rahman’s triumph at the Oscars, Resul said, “The condition of technicians in our country was pathetic until before the Oscars. The technicians in the industry have long been underestimated, as we are used to recognizing only glamorous people. They have been denied the public forum since a long time”.
