Santa Singh was sitting on a bench feeling Happy.

Happy got disgusted and walked away.

No this joke is not from the film. But it immortalizes one of the many popular Happy Singhs from Punjab. When I was nineteen, I discovered that I was a quarter sardar. It was not a secret that was revealed to me. But one of those, “Oh! You seriously had no clue that your grandmother was a sardarni?!”. Much to my stupor it struck me how much sense that made. Everything came into place. All my sardar instincts and inclinations became self-explanatory. Felt cheated but more comforted for some inane reason. But the day I went to watch ‘Singh is King’ I think I lived a true sardar experience. I was one of those few in the Cinema who walked out of the hall singing the ‘Singh is King’ anthem, tapping their chests twice with their fists and toasting to Happy Singh and Snoop Dogg (with a double g)!
The film is absolutely entertaining. Akshay Kumar plays ‘Happy Singh’ who is this mischief monger from Punjab who lands up in Australia with his friend Rangeela (Om Puri)to bring back his childhood friend Lucky who is the Kingpin of an underground mafia in Australia, back to their village. It is a fun spirited film which is clearly made for laughs. There are scenes which are inexplicably funny and very pointless too. But that is exactly what retains the essence of Singh is King. Sardars have been long ridiculed and believed to be the new age fool. This film does the same but portrays him heroic so I guess it gets justified.
Why this film is a must watch? The humour will set all Punjabis rolling to the ground. The plot is so random that it leaves fortunately all scope for laughs. “Bhootnike” is the new swear on every Singh’s tongue. When the kingpin is injured and hence turned into this vegetable gives Happy the pleasure of usurping his throne temporarily. This is where the movie becomes amazingly predictable. Javed Jafri plays the Don’s jealous brother who seeks to kill him till of course Happy Singh sets everything right. The film captures goofy and noble elements of Mr. Happy Singh portraying him as an icon of love and purity. There are acutely slapstick moments in the film as well. Like the wedding scene between Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar. There is utter chaos but the pundit chants his mantras behind a pot covered head and Happy Singh fights around the Vedi holding Ranvir Shorey’s bride and his love till they discover that they’ve been married. It’s insanely bizarre. Not all will like it. But it’s a good time pass film.

Singh is Kinng Trivia

Akshay Kumar suggested and choreographed most of the stunts himself.

The title of the movie is taken from a tagline behind a sardar’s truck.

Snoop Dogg’s wearing a turban for his song ‘Singh is Kinng’ angered many sikh sentiments and many theatres in Punjab were vandalized. The movie almost had an appeal to be banned.

Gaurav Malani (Indiatimes Movies)
"Lucky (Sonu Sood) is the mafia King in Australia. Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) is a good-for-nothing guy from Punjab. Both are introduced individually amongst chaos and commotion, ascertaining the approaching ambience of the film. What follows is a happy-go-lucky story in literal terms as Happy goes in pursuit of Lucky to Australia. For company he has friend (Om Puri) who appears more like his father.
Suddenly the producer desires a song sequence amidst Egyptian pyramids and so the writer twists the tale in such a way that Lucky lands in Egypt while on his way to Australia. He stumbles upon a Hindi speaking heroine (Katrina Kaif) in the Arab land and dances in dreams with her.
On reaching Australia they lose Lucky's address and believe-it-or-not but cops drop them at the door of the don. In an accident Lucky gets petrified and Happy is designated as the new King..."

Watched the movie today, and man am i disappointed in the 100 crores the guy spent. Except the elaborate sets, there's nothing else to expect from this film.
Amazing song, but what shitty production !
Bad script, bad dialogues, bad delivery of those bad dialogues, and to top it all, Kiron Kher, one of the most beautiful seniors of the industry, looking this bad !!!

Man the director really has a knack for making good actors look BAD !
