For a person like me who can sit through musicals but is not particularly a fan of it, Mamma Mia was quite a refreshing change. The tagline of the movie- take a trip down the aisle you'll never forget holds true. This is such a feel-good movie that throughout the movie you would be smiling without even knowing it.

For me there were so many reasons to watch this movie- firstly it has Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan in important roles, Second- I love ABBA I mean I have literally grown up on them so there was no way on this earth that I would have missed Mamma Mia ( I love the title of the movie too- another ABBA song anyone?) Now the funny thing is I watch this movie with my aunt and yes we both ended up singing the songs though I have to admit I was a bit taken a back by my aunt’s enthusiasm.

The story line is not all that brilliant and you won’t even notice that as other things compensate for it. Sophie lives on a Greek island with her mother in a hotel. She wants nothing more that for him to be there for the most important day of her life- her wedding of course! Simple? Well not really because her father could be anyone of the three men with whom she slept twenty years ago. So Sophie decides to call the all three men to her wedding and the complications ensue from there on.

Pierce Brosnan’s singing has been criticized but I personally feel he is never out of tune at any point in the movie. Everyone in the movie is superb too and well Meryl Streep she is just a revelation. Amanda Seyfired is good too matching up with the other veterans alongside her.

The songs have been brilliantly fit into the script without seeming forced or boring. Money! Money! Money! Was my aunt’s favourite, I can’t really decide which one is mine. The film looks and feels great. Its two biggest assets are the songs and the cast.
The movie is definitely a winner. My aunt and me came out of the hall excited and happy.

I cannot help but recommend the movie to people who love musicals as a genre or for that matter have grown up on ABBA like me. Watch it with your mum and dad they’ll appreciate it and you’ll have a good time too.

Mamma Mia Media Reviews

James Berardinelli
"Mamma Mia! delivers exactly what one can reasonably expect from it. It's a faithful adaptation of the stage play of the same name but, more importantly, it's a repository for ABBA songs - nearly two dozen in total. Considering that the average running length of each of these songs is between two and three minutes, that means about 2/3 of the film is singing, with the remaining 35 minutes (or so) devoted to insignificant things like exposition and dialogue. Mamma Mia! is relentlessly cheerful and unapologetically campy, and will find its strongest (and perhaps only) adherents among the group that looks back fondly on ABBA..."
