Rani Mukherjee is so much her name. Rani (Queen) is ruling the hearts of the nation and is extremely good at it. She is a perfectionist who over a period of time has proved herself to be blessed with Midas touch. It won’t come as a surprise if one gets to hear that the director’s belief in his script increases two folds after Rani agrees to become a part of it. That is how she has established herself. Making all the right professional moves is only a part of her character sketch. She has developed and grown in her years of growth and maturity. But unlike the usual course where after beginning comes growth followed either by death or saturation, Rani came, conquered and continues to win with each decision. That’s her charm and that’s her charisma. Born on March 21, 1978 the bong beauty started with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996), Mukerji had her first commercial success with Karan Johar's romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) one of her biggest hits and won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in the film. She re-invented her image with Saathiya (2002), which was commercially and critically successful after a lot of her movies failed to deliver at the box office. And since her professional career saw no looking back with her kitty full not just with films but hits she today has become a force to reckon with. In 2004, her performances in the hit Hum Tum and the critically acclaimed Yuva earned her the Best Actress and the Best Supporting Actress awards at the Filmfare, making her the first actress to win two major awards in the same year. One of her best performances till date remains Black (2005) which saw her play a blind-deaf girl with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. She displayed her versatility as an actress in the movie and won critical acclaim that brought laurels to her acting. Rani unlike a lot of other bollywood actresses is great with her comic timing. With a unique bubbliness she has lent to her characters in Yuva, Hum-Tum, Chalte Chalte are performances that will be remembered by one and all. An actress of substance, the lady is of the league of Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil and Nargis who like all of these legends submits herself totally to the character and lives it till the time she is a part of the process. Today the name Rani Mukherjee has become a brand name in itself and has nurtured and honed her talent to such an extent that she is capable of taking forward an entire movie on her own shoulders. The politically-correct lady has a long way to go and establish herself as an even better actress.
