Heath Ledger is dead! I still can’t believe it, he was all of 28!
It’s been more than a few months now but it just doesn’t sink into me. For all those who have watched the Dark Knight or any of his films will know how great an actor he was. He was one of the stars to have made the transition from television to films. From a teenage heartthrob to a gifted actor to a tabloid favourite because of his public relationship with actress Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams. Heath Ledger had it all.
Born on 4th of April, 1979 in Perth, Western Australia, Heath Ledger was forced to choose between cooking and drama as one of the electives in junior high. Heath couldn’t imagine himself cooking whatsoever and therefore chose drama. That he was talented was noticed instantly. At the age of 17 Heath went to Sydney, a place where he thought dreams turned to reality, with all of 69 cents in his pocket Heath landed a role in the small budget movie called Blackrock (1997). The movie didn’t do well and Heath was remembered in the movie only because he was punched and knocked out. He later auditioned for the TV series “Sweat” where he played the role of a gay cyclist. The show got him some notice but unfortunately for him the show went off-air very soon.
He went to America trying to audition for film roles, showcasing his brief role in "Roar" (1997) opposite then unknown Vera Farmiga. Heath still couldn’t find any American directors that would cast him. In 1999, Gregor Jordan auditioned him for one of the two leads in Two Hands. That movie didn’t do much for him but got him 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, a movie which is still so popular. Heath, to come out of his teen heartthrob persona took up the challenging role alongside Mel Gibson in the Patriot. What followed then was rather bizarre because Heath accepted any and everything that came along his way to not be stereotyped in the industry. Some of his roles of that period are a short cameo in Monster’s Ball (2001), followed by his version of Ned Kelly (2003). Heath then landed the role of a lifetime in Brokeback Mountain, which earned him an Oscar Nomination and a BAFTA.
Heath was found dead on January 22, 2008 in Manhattan by a accidental over dosage of prescribed drugs. He was discovered naked face down by his maid. Fans were stunned by his sudden death and even today cannot bring themselves to believe that he is no more amongst them. After Heath’s death came his most popular character to date that of the Joker in the movie Dark Knight (2008).
Best remembered for his traditional husky voice and grin HEATH LEDGER will be tremendously missed for all that he was and all he could have been.
